WARNING: 1080 WILD DOG AND FOX BAITING MAY 11 to JUNE 12 2026
05 May 2026
Hunter Land Management Pty Ltd will be conducting a vertebrate pest management
programme on behalf of Hunter Valley Operations (HVO) between Monday 11 May
2026 and Friday 12 June 2026.
The programme will target wild dogs and foxes with sodium monoflouro acetate (1080)
ground baits, including meat and ejector baits. Baits will only be established on the HVO
site, surrounding land and biodiversity offset areas (BOA). Relevant HVO owned areas
are generally located:
- On land between the Golden Highway and New England Highway between Warkworth and Liddell and Bayswater Power Stations, in addition to the ‘Eyrie Bower’ property on Knodlers Lane, Maison Dieu
- Mitchelhill BOA (Muscle Creek area)
- Wandewoi BOA (off Lemington Road, Jerrys Plains)
- Condon View BOA (Putty – Box Tree Clearing Trail)
- Hook BOA (Lower Belford adjoining Pothana Lane)
- Goulburn River BOA (Comialla Road, Cassilis)
What is 1080 baiting and how is it done?
Baiting with sodium monofluoroacetate (1080) minimises the impact of wild dogs and
foxes on native fauna and agricultural production. Lethal baiting is the most effective
broad-scale method currently available. Foxes are amongst the most sensitive species
to the effects of 1080, whereas native carnivorous animals are not affected.
1080 is an odourless, tasteless, concentrated solution with a coloured dye to identify the
toxin. It is put it into fresh, dried or processed meat baits.
Baiting will be in accordance with the permit issued by the Australian Pesticides and
Veterinary Medicines Authority under the Federal Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals
Code Act 1994 as well as the NSW Pesticides Act 1999.
Warning to residents with working dogs and pets
Please note that baits may affect domestic animals if eaten, therefore neighbours and
visitors are warned not to take domestic pets and working dogs into these areas. To
avoid accidental poisoning of domestic pets, we suggest they be restrained during the
baiting period to ensure that they do not enter the baited grounds. In the event of
accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.
