Supporting safer storage and smoother operations for Maitland’s Steamfest volunteers

At HVO, we are deeply committed to safety both on our site and across the communities where we operate. That’s why we were proud to support a valuable upgrade for the dedicated volunteers at the Maitland Steam and Antique Machinery Association.

Through our recent partnership, the Club’s work shed has been transformed with the addition of a new mezzanine floor. This practical improvement means tools and machinery can now be stored securely and safely above ground level, reducing the risk of damage from flooding – a persistent challenge for the site.

By removing this risk and creating more organised storage, the upgrade will also help volunteers spend less time on manual handling and more time doing what they love, like preparing for and running the iconic Hunter Valley Steamfest rally.

The project was made possible through support from the HVO Community Grants Program, which supports local initiatives that improve safety, protect valuable assets, and foster community spirit.

Beth from our Community and Environment team recently visited the shed to see the improvements firsthand and meet with the volunteers who are already benefiting from the enhanced storage space.

This latest improvement is a great example of how working together can help preserve our region’s rich history, while ensuring the wellbeing of the people who make events like Steamfest possible year after year.

The HVO Community Grants Program will be open for applications again during September. For more information, visit our Community page here.
