WARNING: 1080 WILD DOG AND FOX BAITING MAY 12 to JUNE 13 2025
Hunter Land Management will carry out wild dog and fox baiting on Hunter Valley Operations (HVO) site, surrounding land, and biodiversity offsets.
The baits will be laid from Monday 12 May and collected by Friday 13 June 2025.
The HVO site and surrounding properties are located on land between the Golden Highway and New England Highway between Warkworth, Liddell and Bayswater Power Stations; and also at Maison Dieu on Knodlers Lane.
Baiting will also occur on the Belford Offset adjoining Pothana Lane, the Mitchelhill Offsets in the Muscle Creek area, the offset on Box Tree Clearing Trail, Putty and the Goulburn River Offset on Comialla Road, Cassilis.
What is 1080 baiting and how is it done?
Baiting with sodium monofluoroacetate (1080) minimises the impact of wild dogs and foxes on native fauna and agricultural production. Lethal baiting is the most effective broad-scale method currently available. Foxes are amongst the most sensitive species to the effects of 1080.
1080 is an odourless, tasteless, concentrated solution with a coloured dye to identify the toxin. It is put it into fresh, dried or processed meat baits.
Baiting will be in accordance with the permit issued by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority under the Federal Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals Code Act 1994 as well as the NSW Pesticides Act 1999.
Warning to residents with working dogs and pets
To avoid accidental poisoning of domestic pets, please ensure their presence at home during this period. If domestic animals are affected by the baits, seek veterinary assistance immediately.
