Voice for Mining Day a winner for mining families and the Newcastle Knights

Hunter Valley Operations (HVO) joined the Hunter region’s other mines for a big day for local mining families and for the Newcastle Knights at the  Voice for Mining Family Day on September 1.

HVO staff and families were among a crowd of around 25,000 at McDonald Jones Stadium  that got to enjoy some fun activities in the forecourt before watching the Newcastle Knights women’s and men’s games. Some HVO staff got to be in the Guard of Honour for the Newcastle Knights players as they ran onto the field.

The HVO stand was buzzing with footy fans of all ages trying their hand at our footy toss game and picking up giveaways. There was a healthy but friendly level of competition as people showcased their footy passing skills. The friendly competition The kids loved the handballs and packs of mini M&Ms and the HVO caps were a hit with the adults.

Congratulations to HVO team member Scott Wilton and his three children. They, along with Luke Patterson and his daughter, were lucky enough to win our coin toss competition.

Inside the ground, the focus turned to footy. The Knight’s NRLW team returned to their winning ways, beating Wests Tigers 34 to 6. The men defeated the Gold Coast Titans 36 to 14, keeping their chances of making the finals alive.

The game results topped off a great day for Hunter mining families and other members of the community to come together to support the local rugby league teams and celebrate the contribution mining makes to the region. 

NSW Mining organises the annual Mining Family Day and is a major sponsor of the Newcastle Knights on behalf of the mines that form its membership.. A new deal means the NSW mining industry will keep supporting the club for another three years. NSW Mining has been a major sponsor of the Newcastle Knights since 2013 and was the first sponsor to support the club’s new NRLW team in 2021. Read more about their support here.
