Help keep the Hunter economy strong
HVO is seeking approval to continue mining at our operation until 2045.
We want to send a clear message to Government and the Independent Planning Commission (IPC) that the HVO Continuation Project is important for jobs, community and local businesses in the Hunter. At a time when costs of living and economic and energy security are critical – our project can support the economic resilience of the Hunter and broader NSW.
If approved, the HVO Continuation Project will continue to provide employment and economic benefit for years to come.
Hunter Valley Operations (HVO) is seeking your support to extend HVO operations out to 2045.
For more than 70 years, HVO has been a source of community strength and economic stability in the Hunter. We have a local workforce of 1,500 people who are skilled and dedicated to making a difference and supporting the Hunter region.
In 2024 HVO had a A$1.7 billion direct economic contribution and spent more than $1 billion on goods and services from over 800 businesses.
We know that the high quality HVO coal will continue to be in demand from Australia’s key trading partners across Asia as they continue to urbanise and industrialise. The economic benefits from continuing HVO operations in the form of taxes and royalties will help support the Hunter as it transitions to a low carbon future.
We have responded to NSW Government feedback and amended our original project proposal to reduce emissions, production rates and adjust timelines. Collectively, these changes resulted in:
These measures show our commitment to operating safely and responsibly and consistent with emissions reduction targets under the NSW and Federal legislation.
Your voice is essential in shaping a future for the Hunter. We kindly ask you to add your name as a show of support for the HVO Continuation Project. Every signature brings us one step closer to securing the future of our HVO community.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Dave Foster
